Protein and Muscles

Here's a recent study that shows how properly timed protein is a key for muscle growth.  The study had two groups who performed the same resistance training program.  Each group ingested a drink before and after working out, and in the morning on nontraining days.  One group ingested a protein drink while the other group ingested an equal-calorie carbohydrate drink.

The result?  The protein group showed significant muscle growth at the end of the 14-week study.  The carbohydrate group showed no increase in muscle.

Why is protein so important to muscle growth?  Here's some thoughts.
